Symbols and details of day-to-day living from other cultures continue to find a voice in Tibi’s clean and modern aesthetic — the Pre Fall 2015 collection gives a nod to the unique and empowering style of the gauchos in 19th century Argentina. The inherent coziness and warmth of the gaucho uniform are referenced throughout the collection: skirts move with deep folds and asymmetrical lines, pants loosely skim and fall at a shortened length, and felted blanket fabrics give texture and body. The gaucho penchant for neckties also finds a place in the collection through the twists and knots that detail this season’s dresses, tops, and shoes.

The Tibi Spring 2015 Collection brings us back to a time when most materials in our lives were crafted by human hand. Amy Smilovic set about fusing these craft work traditions, from Japan to Peru, with the shapes and movement of modern life. The search for how authenticity and nature can be articulated into the art of modern dressing is never far from Smilovic’s mind.
A fusion of handcraft traditions comes into sharp focus: quilting, embroidery, pleating and a bevy of wraps and ties that feel louche but convey refined ease. The ornamental Koi fish and its pond define the season’s color palette, ranging from a base of earth tones in stone greys, whites and sand touched with shades of watery blue, fire oranges and dark green. A palette that is neutral but potent: it’s the way a woman who loves an all-black uniform wears color. The hat reappears this season. This time, Smilovic re-interprets the heritage of Peruvian millinery into hats that are dip-dyed by hand, with gently frayed edges. And shoes range from sporty interpretations of easy flats – from gladiator sandals with slight wedges and treading – to slides with raffia detailing.
